Chat
There came a time when chatting was so popular, especially among youths. Chat rooms are being flooded by people everyday. But crimes and violence related to chatting, and the emergence of new technologies have lessened the population of chatters in the chat rooms. Nowadays, many people still chat but the people they chat with are those they personally know already.
Before, chatting was a community may were addicted to. But the emergence of on-line communities such as Friendster, Multiply, Facebook, Flicker, MySpace have limited the chatting time of chatters. Now, people who engage in conversations and maintain relationships on-line have become busy in uploading pictures, videos, blog entries, and designing their personal account pages that’s why their chat time has diminished.
Chatting now, is reduced as supplementary means of fast communication. People in the office are the ones more likely to succumb to the benefits of chatting. By the use of their MSN, Meebo, ICQ, or Yahoo Messenger, they can easily exchange ideas, delegate tasks, pose questions that are work related, and also engage in personal conversations with their fellow officemates and/or other friends while working on their work station, without feeling the need to stand up and approach the person they need to talk to in the office. I say that these are the people who greatly benefit from the chat technology, because other individuals who wish to chat with a long distance friend or love one can now use Skype and Magic Jack. These are the new technologies I was talking about earlier that almost eradicated the chatting community. Why? Because these technologies can offer more to just merely chatting. In these technologies, you can actually talk through a mini microphone (normally a mouthpiece) and listen through a
speaker (typically a headset) and engage in conversations with your friends or love ones, in real time, all simultaneously. The video amenity of these technologies via the webcam has popularized them, especially Skype. In Skype, talking and live video feeds are clearer compared to Yahoo Messenger. The good thing is, in Skype, people can still chat, even while talking to a different person via a video call. This means that Skype did not totally killed the community of chatters, it just offered a better technology for every chatter to enjoy.
